Rico Blanco has released a revamped version of the classic song “Kisapmata,” paying tribute to those who contributed to the project, including his ex-girlfriend Maris Racal. The new version debuted on Blanco’s YouTube channel on July 27, with a special note of thanks in the video description. The credit list included Mark Escueta (Guitar Amp), Racal (Telecaster), Marco Bachini (Acoustic Guitar), and Zild Benitez (12-string Guitar).
The music video, which has climbed to number 17 on YouTube Music’s trending list, features simple yet captivating visuals that underscore Blanco’s emotive delivery. Fans in the comments section have speculated about the possible symbolism in the video, with one viewer suggesting that the setting in a “magical enchanted forest” could represent Blanco’s feelings of being stuck in a past relationship.
“Kisapmata,” originally a hit for Blanco’s band Rivermaya in 1996, is the second release from an upcoming album where Blanco revisits some of his most beloved works as a solo artist. The song, which Blanco wrote and produced, explores the fleeting nature of emotions and the end of promises.
Earlier this month, Maris Racal announced their breakup, describing it as a “polite separation.” The couple, who had a significant age difference—Blanco is 51, and Racal is 26—publicly confirmed their relationship in May 2021 following a musical collaboration.
