HOUSTON – Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Houston next week to attend the funeral of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, the White House announced Saturday.
This visit marks Vice President Harris’ third trip to Texas in the past month and her second visit to Houston during that period.
Earlier this week, Harris visited Houston’s Emergency Operations Center for a briefing on the area’s recovery efforts following Hurricane Beryl. She also delivered a keynote address at the American Federation of Teachers’ 88th national convention at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
Earlier in July, Harris was in Dallas to speak at the 71st Boulé of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, an organization to which both she and Jackson Lee belonged.
Vice President Harris will return to Houston on Thursday, August 1, for the funeral services of Congresswoman Jackson Lee.
“There was never a trite or trivial conversation with the Congresswoman,” Harris remarked after Jackson Lee’s passing. “She was always fighting for the people of Houston and the people of America.”
With President Joe Biden not seeking reelection, Vice President Harris has emerged as the presumptive Democratic nominee for the 2024 Presidential Race.
