HOUSTON – An Uber driver was tragically killed early Sunday morning after being struck by his own car while inspecting it on the east Houston freeway.

The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. on I-10 East Freeway near the Kress exit. According to investigators, the driver had stopped to check his vehicle after suspecting he hit something on the shoulder of the freeway.

The Uber driver and his passenger initially exited the car to investigate. While the passenger soon returned to the vehicle, the driver continued inspecting the car. It was then that another vehicle, possibly a pick-up truck, crashed into the back of the Uber driver’s car, as reported by Sgt. Dallas of the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division.

The impact caused the car to be pushed on top of the driver, resulting in his death. The identity of the Uber driver has not been released.

No details have been provided about the driver of the other vehicle or whether any charges will be filed. The investigation is ongoing.
