Texas City officials are advising residents to avoid travel as severe storms have caused significant flooding throughout the area. Rainfall in some locations has reached up to five inches, resulting in numerous flooded roadways and vehicles.
Emergency management officials have issued an alert urging residents to stay off the roads until the water levels subside. In response to the adverse weather conditions, all city buildings and facilities will remain closed until noon today.
The National Weather Service has been issuing a Flash Flood Warning for Central Galveston County since shortly after 5 a.m. This warning has been extended through 9 a.m. as heavy rains continue to affect the region.
High-water conditions have created dangerous travel situations, particularly on the Gulf Freeway heading north near Holland, where traffic has slowed considerably.
