Pilot Sole Survivor in Nepal Plane Crash That Killed 18

KATHMANDU, Nepal — A devastating plane crash at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport this morning has left 18 people dead, with the pilot being the sole survivor. The Saurya Airlines flight, bound for Pokhara, crashed during takeoff at around 11 am, carrying 19 people, including crew members.

A shocking video captured the moment the aircraft crashed. The 50-seater plane had 17 crew members and two passengers on board. Local media reported that the pilot survived the crash and was taken to Kathmandu Medical College Hospital for treatment. Although he sustained injuries to his eyes, he is now out of danger.

“Eighteen bodies have been recovered, including one foreigner,” police spokesman Dan Bahadur Karki told AFP. “We are in the process of taking them for post-mortem.”

In response to the tragedy, Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal’s main airport, has been shut down while authorities conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash.
