San Antonio’s Arneson Theatre will receive $1.3 million in upgrades following the San Antonio City Council’s approval of a renovation contract.

City officials stated that the current equipment, last updated in 1990, is no longer operational. AMSTAR Inc., a San Antonio-based contractor, will oversee the renovations.

Construction is scheduled to begin in July, with substantial completion expected by the end of the year. Major events will proceed as scheduled, while smaller events may be postponed during the renovation period.

Located in the La Villita Historic Arts Village, the Arneson Theatre hosts various cultural and social events. The renovations are intended to modernize the venue’s infrastructure.

Upgrades include the installation of new stage and lighting equipment, public Wi-Fi, and enhanced electrical systems. These changes are part of the city’s broader initiative to maintain and update public cultural venues.

The venue is expected to continue hosting regional and cultural festivals. City officials stated the improvements are intended to support the ongoing use of the theatre for public events.

The City Council’s contract approval reflects continued investment in San Antonio’s cultural infrastructure.
