San Antonio mourns drowning victims in flood vigil

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Residents gathered at a city park on Wednesday, June 18, to honor 13 individuals who died during flash floods on June 12.

Religious leaders led prayers, and officials offered condolences. Emergency crews had responded to widespread flooding triggered by torrential rainfall, which weather experts attributed to an unusual storm pattern.

Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement expressing sympathy to the victims’ families. The National Weather Service had issued flood warnings before the event.

Rescue teams responded to numerous emergency calls, saving stranded residents. Many victims became trapped in submerged vehicles. Officials confirmed the floods as among the deadliest in San Antonio’s recent history.

Volunteers from across Texas assisted survivors. The Red Cross opened shelters for displaced residents. Local businesses contributed supplies and donations to recovery efforts.

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg highlighted the community’s resilience. The city plans public meetings to address infrastructure improvements.
