AUSTIN — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) evacuated the Texas Capitol on Saturday following a credible threat against state lawmakers, officials confirmed.
Authorities instructed all individuals inside the Capitol to leave the premises as a precaution. Law enforcement agencies increased security around the building and conducted a thorough search of the Capitol grounds.
The nature of the threat has not been disclosed, and DPS launched an ongoing investigation to assess its source and credibility. Texas Governor Greg Abbott and other state officials were informed of the situation.
The evacuation disrupted legislative activities, and members of the public were advised to avoid the area until further notice. No injuries or harm were reported during the incident.
Capitol Police, working alongside state and federal security agencies, continue to monitor the situation closely. Heightened security measures were also implemented in adjacent buildings.
Officials emphasized their commitment to ensuring the safety of lawmakers and the public amid growing concerns about security at government facilities.
The Texas Department of Public Safety has not announced when the Capitol will reopen. Authorities urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior.
