MANILA, Philippines– President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has unveiled plans to revitalize historic districts along the Pasig River as part of the Philippines’ ongoing cultural and urban renewal efforts.

The announcement came during a lighting ceremony at Manila’s Jones Bridge on Saturday, commemorating 50 years of diplomatic ties between the Philippines and China.

President Marcos highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage through restoration, aiming to transform the riverbanks into vibrant, historically reflective spaces. He emphasized the integration of sustainable development practices to ensure long-term benefits.

The Jones Bridge lighting is part of a broader initiative to enhance Manila’s urban landscape and attract more tourism and economic activity. The president also called on local communities and stakeholders to actively participate in the revitalization process.

Officials say the project supports the administration’s wider goals of cultural preservation and inclusive urban development.
