MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) temporarily halted the transfer of former Negros Oriental Congressman Arnolfo Teves Jr. to another detention facility on Monday.
Teves faces charges related to the March 4, 2023, shooting in Pamplona, Negros Oriental, which killed Governor Roel Degamo and nine others. Authorities are also pursuing cases against him for the 2019 killing of former Negros Oriental Board Member Miguel Dungog and two others.
The motion to consolidate these criminal cases, filed by Teves’ lawyers, aims to combine the charges into a single court proceeding for more streamlined legal processing. The court is currently reviewing the request.
Teves remains in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detention facility while legal proceedings continue. The Manila RTC Branch 12 is also handling additional charges against him for illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
Investigations into the 2023 and 2019 incidents are ongoing as further evidence is being gathered.
