HOUSTON, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott is set to sign a bill in Central Texas that will provide $8.5 billion in additional funding for public education across Texas.
The Texas Legislature passed the legislation, known as House Bill 2 (HB 2), to enhance financial support for schools statewide.
HB 2 introduces a $55 increase in base funding per student, which aims to improve financial resources for schools. The bill addresses key areas of the education system, including teacher salaries, staff pay, special education, and early childhood learning.
The legislation allocates $4 billion specifically for increasing teacher and staff salaries, helping to attract and retain quality educators in Texas schools.
In addition to pay raises, the bill provides funding for special education services to better support students with special needs. HB 2 also includes provisions to improve pre-kindergarten services, enhancing early childhood learning opportunities for young students.
The passage of HB 2 follows years of stagnant funding for public education in Texas, and it represents a significant investment in the state’s education system.
Governor Abbott’s signing of the bill underscores his administration’s commitment to strengthening public education. The increased funding and salary adjustments aim to create a more competitive and effective education system.
