BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei — Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei returned to his home country on Tuesday after being discharged from a Malaysian hospital. The Brunei Prime Minister’s Office confirmed his return in an official statement.

The 78-year-old Sultan had been hospitalized at the National Heart Institute in Malaysia due to fatigue last week. He traveled back to Brunei accompanied by his consort, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha.

Prior to his departure, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The Sultan’s hospitalization took place during a meeting of Southeast Asian leaders, but officials assured the public that his health condition remains stable.
