MANILA, Philippines — Gen. Nicolas Torre III, the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), announced plans to strengthen the Internal Affairs Service (IAS) to improve accountability within the police force.
Torre announced during a press briefing after assuming command at Camp Crame on Monday. He emphasized the IAS’s role as a watchdog against police misconduct and encouraged citizens to report any wrongdoing by officers.
Torre said he will focus on enhancing the investigative capabilities of the IAS amid ongoing efforts to address corruption and misconduct within the PNP. He stressed the importance of public trust and accountability in maintaining effective policing.
Torre’s announcement responds to calls for increased oversight and transparency in law enforcement agencies, aiming to reassure the public about the PNP’s commitment to internal reforms.
