AUSTIN, Texas– A house fire early Monday morning in Central East Austin claimed the lives of two individuals, according to the Austin Fire Department.
The fire broke out on Pecan Springs Road, where emergency responders arrived to find approximately 75% of the structure engulfed in flames. Firefighters rescued one woman from the home, but she later died from her injuries. A man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released the victims’ identities, pending notification of their families. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials have not yet determined whether the home had functioning smoke detectors.
The Austin Fire Department continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and urges residents to regularly check their smoke alarms and follow fire safety protocols.
