Los Angeles, CA — The Los Angeles Lakers have announced that Bronny James will wear the No. 9 jersey in his first NBA season, as revealed a day after he was picked in the second round of this year’s NBA Draft. Bronny was selected 55th overall, marking a historic milestone that garnered worldwide attention.

Bronny’s selection sets the stage for the first-ever father-and-son duo to play together in the NBA, with his father, league legend LeBron James, still under contract with the Lakers. Despite LeBron not yet opting into his $51.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season, Bronny’s addition to the team could influence his decision positively.

“LeBron has a decision on his opt-out… but if it worked out that he was on our team next season, NBA history could be made,” said team manager Rob Pelinka. “And NBA history should be made in a Lakers uniform.”

The No. 9 jersey was last worn by Sterling Brown two seasons ago, with Rajon Rondo being the previous player to don the number and win a title with the Lakers.

In addition to Bronny, fellow rookie Dalton Knecht will be wearing No. 4 for the Lakers.

As anticipation builds for the upcoming season, the potential of seeing Bronny and LeBron share the court is a momentous prospect for NBA fans and a significant chapter in the Lakers’ storied history.
