DALLAS, Texas– A family from North Texas has filed a lawsuit against three former cheerleading teachers at Rockwall Heath High School in Dallas.
The lawsuit follows the hospitalization of their daughter, a student at the school, with rhabdomyolysis—a medical condition caused by muscle tissue breakdown that releases muscle fiber contents into the bloodstream.
Rhabdomyolysis can result in complications such as kidney failure due to the presence of substances like myoglobin in the bloodstream. Immediate medical treatment is required for the condition.
The family claims the teachers did not take precautions to prevent the condition and did not provide adequate care after symptoms appeared.
The school district has not issued an official statement regarding the lawsuit. It is not clear if any disciplinary actions have been taken against the teachers involved.
