Defending French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz moved into the third round on Wednesday after defeating Hungarian Fabian Marozsan in four sets at Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Alcaraz, 21, overcame a brief second-set setback to win 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. The Spaniard, who debuted a fresh haircut after flying his barber to Paris following his first-round match, opened strong with a dominant first set.
Marozsan, who defeated Alcaraz in Rome last year, responded in the second set with aggressive baseline play, handing the world No. 3 his first set loss of the tournament. Alcaraz, however, quickly regained control, dictating the pace in the final two sets to close out the match.
Alcaraz’s performance underlined his adaptability and focus as he continues his title defense at Roland Garros. He will face either Sebastian Korda or Soon-woo Kwon in the third round.
