Nicolas Torre III takes over as new PNP chief

MANILA, Philippines– Police Major General Nicolas Torre III has been appointed as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin announced during a press conference at Malacañang on Thursday.

Torre, known for leading the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, assumes the top PNP post as part of the Marcos administration’s recent leadership changes.

The PNP confirmed his appointment in an official statement following Bersamin’s announcement.

In a separate development, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed Darlene Berberabe as the new Solicitor General of the Philippines. Berberabe replaces Menardo Guevarra, who confirmed the leadership transition to reporters on the same day.

The Office of the Solicitor General released a statement welcoming Berberabe, emphasizing her experience and commitment to public service as she begins her tenure.
