The Texas Senate has approved an $8.5 billion funding bill aimed at strengthening public education across the state.

Under the bill, $4.2 billion is allocated for teacher and staff pay raises to help improve educator retention and recruitment. An additional $850 million is set aside for enhancements to special education programs, with the goal of expanding support for students with disabilities.

The legislation also includes funding for early childhood education, teacher preparation, student transportation, insurance, and other school operations.

Texas schools have faced persistent challenges related to underfunding and uneven resource distribution. The bill aims to create a more equitable system by increasing support for schools regardless of location or community income levels.

If passed by the House, the funding package would represent one of the largest investments in Texas public education in recent years. Lawmakers say the bill reflects a bipartisan effort to prioritize educational outcomes and student success.

Deliberations in the House will continue in the coming days, with legislative leaders optimistic about the bill’s prospects. If enacted, the funding is expected to begin impacting schools in the upcoming academic year.
