SAN ANTONIO, Texas– A 13-year-old boy in San Antonio faces charges after authorities uncovered his alleged plan to carry out a mass shooting at Rhodes Middle School.

The teenager is also connected to an apartment arson incident that occurred in 2023, which led to his arrest.

Surveillance footage captured the boy entering a storage room at an apartment complex on the city’s northwest side, shortly before smoke and flames spread to nearby units. While the fire caused significant damage, there were no reported injuries. The video became crucial evidence linking the boy to the arson.

Court documents reveal that the teenager had been planning a violent attack at Rhodes Middle School, with investigators discovering materials that pointed to his intentions. Although specific details about these materials have not been disclosed, authorities intervened before the suspect could act on his alleged plans.

The boy now faces terrorism charges related to the school threat and arson charges for the fire at the apartment complex.

The fire at the apartment complex occurred earlier in 2023, with residents alerting emergency services to the blaze. Firefighters were able to contain the fire, and further investigation led to the identification of the teenager as a suspect.

School officials at Rhodes Middle School have reassured parents and students, emphasizing the district’s commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment.

They are reviewing safety protocols and working with law enforcement to ensure preparedness in case of emergencies.
