FLORIDA — A stray cat named George has made an extraordinary 2.7-mile journey back to his home in the Loma Verde community after escaping from an animal shelter.

George, an orange cat known to residents for receiving regular care, had been brought to SPCA Florida for a neutering procedure when he managed to break free from his cage.

After realizing George was missing, the shelter staff and local community began searching for him. Despite their efforts, George remained elusive and was later found back in the Loma Verde neighborhood.

Residents expressed relief when the cat returned, resuming their care for him.

SPCA Florida emphasized the importance of securing animal enclosures to prevent escapes and reiterated their commitment to the safety of the animals in their care. The shelter is taking additional measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
