Josh Freese has officially parted ways with the Foo Fighters, the band confirmed through a statement shared by Freese on Instagram.

Freese, who joined the rock group in May 2023 following the death of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins, revealed that the band informed him of their decision to go “in a different direction” with their drummer.

Freese said he received the news on a Monday night and was not given a specific reason for the decision.

The announcement comes nearly two years after Freese stepped in as the band’s drummer, marking a period of stability following Hawkins’ sudden passing in March 2022.

Taylor Hawkins had been a key member of the Foo Fighters for more than two decades before his death. His loss prompted a major shift within the band, eventually leading to Freese’s appointment.

Freese brought extensive experience as a session and touring drummer, having worked with numerous high-profile acts throughout his career.
