AUSTIN, Texas– Travis County fire officials have launched a wildfire readiness initiative in Austin, Texas, to prepare for the upcoming wildfire season.
The program focuses on educating homebuilders, property owners, landscapers, and emergency responders about reducing fire risks. Officials stressed the importance of strengthening buildings and creating defensible landscaping to protect against wildfires.
Travis County officials noted that embers can travel up to a mile and a half, making fire safety measures important even when wildfires are not nearby. Fire Chief Nick Perkins said the goal is to prevent ember intrusion and protect buildings.
The campaign will continue to focus on raising awareness and sharing information to reduce wildfire risks.
