MANILA, Philippines– Angelika dela Cruz, the barangay chair of Longos in Malabon, has received a death threat in connection with her candidacy for vice mayor in the upcoming local elections.
On May 9, Dela Cruz shared the threatening message on her Facebook page. The threat was accompanied by three bullets and a note demanding that she withdraw from the vice mayoral race.
The note contained the following message: “Angelika dela Cruz, mapagpalang araw sa’yo. Umatras ka na sa laban ng vice mayor ng Malabon! Kung hindi, alam mo ang kahihinatnan mo at ng pamilya mo!”
Dela Cruz is running for vice mayor under the Nationalist People’s Coalition party. She has previously served as barangay captain of Longos since 2013.
Earlier this year, Dela Cruz faced plunder charges involving public funds amounting to at least ₱70 million, which she has denied, attributing the charges to political attacks.
