MANILA, Philippines — Gilas Pilipinas team manager Alfrancis Chua confirmed that Justin Brownlee is recovering well from hand surgery and remains under evaluation for potential participation in the FIBA Asia Cup this August in Saudi Arabia.

Brownlee, a naturalized player and key contributor to the national team, underwent surgery earlier this year to address an injury that has kept him off the court.

“His recovery is going well. We’re hopeful, but it will depend on his condition closer to the tournament,” Chua told the media.

Brownlee is currently undergoing rehabilitation and is expected to resume training soon. Gilas Pilipinas officials and medical staff are monitoring his progress closely to determine his readiness.

The FIBA Asia Cup is a major competition for the national team, and Brownlee’s status is considered a crucial factor in the team’s strategy. While no final decision has been made regarding his inclusion, the coaching staff plans to assess his condition before making a roster announcement.

Gilas Pilipinas continues its preparations for the tournament with or without Brownlee, as supporters await further updates on his recovery.
