MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has disqualified Christian “Ian” Sia, a candidate for the lone district representative seat of Pasig City, due to lewd and discriminatory remarks.
According to the anti-discrimination panel, Sia’s comments targeted single mothers and ridiculed the weight of a former assistant.
Comelec emphasized the importance of maintaining a non-discriminatory and civil discourse during the election process.
The panel’s review of Sia’s conduct was initiated without external prompting. Based on the evidence presented, the division concluded that the candidate’s behavior undermined the integrity of the electoral process. Sia’s disqualification effectively removes him from the list of candidates for the upcoming election.
At the time of this report, Sia has not publicly commented on the ruling. His campaign had previously been criticized for the controversial nature of his statements.
