DALLAS, Texas–The Garland City Council is scheduled to vote on a proposal to sell the historic property at 519 W. State Street for $740,000 to The Owl Icehouse LLC.
The buyer plans to redevelop the site into a large restaurant, aiming to contribute to the revitalization of downtown Garland.
The property, originally constructed in 1900 and known as the Jones and Newton building, has undergone several renovations over the years.
In 2017, the city purchased the property for $1.95 million with the intent to develop it into an event center, catering facility, restaurant, or similar entertainment venue.
City officials believe that the proposed restaurant will attract more visitors and businesses to the area, boosting the local economy.
The city council’s upcoming vote will determine the future of the property and its role in the ongoing efforts to revitalize downtown Garland.
