SpaceX is taking steps to incorporate its Boca Chica facility in Cameron County, Texas, into an official city to be named Starbase.

County officials confirmed they have received communication from the company expressing intent to begin the legal process of incorporation.

The proposed city would include the private property surrounding the SpaceX site and establish local governance structures, such as a city council and municipal services.

Any incorporation would require approval from both Cameron County and the State of Texas. While no timeline has been announced, officials said discussions are ongoing.

Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr. said the county is open to proposals that meet all legal and procedural requirements.

He noted that the Starbase project could contribute to local economic development and job creation, aligning with SpaceX’s expanding presence in the region.

Under Texas law, incorporation typically involves filing petitions, holding public hearings, and obtaining voter approval.

If approved, Starbase would become a legally recognized municipality, with implications for local zoning, taxation, and public service administration.
