The NLEX Road Warriors achieved their third consecutive victory in the PBA Philippine Cup on Friday, defeating the Blackwater Bossing 80-72 at the newly inaugurated Ynares Center II. This victory marks NLEX’s continued ascent in the tournament standings, sharing second place with San Miguel Beer, which did not play this week.

Led by Robert Bolick, who delivered a standout performance with 20 points, including 10 crucial points in the fourth quarter, the Road Warriors successfully fended off Blackwater despite the latter’s determined effort to rally. Bolick attributed part of the team’s success to the renewed sense of trust and belief instilled by coach Jong Uichico, allowing players to showcase their potential.

The Road Warriors were further bolstered by significant contributions from JB Bahio, Kevin Alas, and Dominick Fajardo. Bahio recorded 12 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, while Alas, returning strongly from a third ACL injury, provided 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists over 27 minutes. Fajardo also played a pivotal role, adding 10 points and four rebounds.

NLEX coach Jong Uichico highlighted the strategic adjustments that allowed key players ample time on the court, emphasizing the team’s adaptability. The Road Warriors now face a challenging schedule, set to play against Barangay Ginebra, league leaders Magnolia, and defending champions Meralco over the next two weeks. Bolick expressed caution, noting that these upcoming games will test the team’s character.

Blackwater, dealing with the absence of key players like rookie guard Sedrick Barefield due to a hamstring injury and Christian David who suffered an ankle sprain early in the game, fell to a 1-3 record. Meanwhile, TNT Tropang Giga, seeking their first win after a 0-2 start, were competing against Phoenix, with hopes of gaining momentum for their match against the Beermen.

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) plans to host another doubleheader at this venue on May 18, continuing to engage fans and showcase talent from across the league.
