BRASÍLIA, Brazil – Brazilian nun Inah Canabarro Lucas, recognized as the world’s oldest person, died on Wednesday at 116 years old.

Gerontological Research Group (GRG) and the LongeviQuest database confirmed her passing. Canabarro was born on June 8, 1908.

She became the world’s oldest individual after the death of Japanese woman Tomiko Itooka in January, who was also 116.

The title of the world’s oldest person now passes to Ethel Caterham, a 115-year-old resident of Surrey, England.

Canabarro, who nearly did not survive infancy, credited her longevity to her faith and religious order.
