World number one Aryna Sabalenka kicked off her 2025 Madrid Open campaign with a commanding 6-3, 6-4 win over Anna Blinkova in the second round on Friday at the Caja Magica.

The Belarusian star, eyeing her third title at the tournament, improved her record in Madrid to 18-4.

Sabalenka, who won the event in 2021 and 2023 and finished runner-up to Iga Swiatek last year, dominated early with a double-break to lead 5-0 in the first set.

Blinkova managed to reclaim one break, but Sabalenka closed out the set on her third set point after 48 minutes.

Her consistent and powerful performance signals a strong intent to defend her title. With her history of success in Madrid, Sabalenka remains a top contender as the tournament progresses.
