SAN ANTONIO — Fiesta De Los Reyes has introduced new security measures for its 2025 event following a shooting incident that occurred during last year’s festival.
The event, held at San Antonio’s historic Market Square, aims to enhance safety for all attendees.
Fiesta De Los Reyes will implement a clear bag policy starting this year. Attendees must use bags no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches.
Clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags will be allowed. Diaper bags are permitted but must be accompanied by a guardian with a child and should contain diaper-changing items. All bags are subject to search upon entry.
The new security measures come after an incident last year, when a shooting broke out, resulting in the deaths of two men and injuries to four others.
The San Antonio Police Department responded to the scene, returning fire. An 18-year-old suspect was fatally shot by officers.
As part of the updated safety protocols, the San Antonio Police Department announced the installation of metal detectors. Additionally, there will be increased police presence throughout the event to ensure public safety.
Fencing will surround Milam Park and Market Square. Security checkpoints will monitor the entrances, and all visitors will have to pass through these areas to gain access to the event.
Market Square will also see modifications in its operational hours on the final day of the event. This change aims to facilitate better crowd control and ensure the safety of attendees.
