MANILA, Philippines– President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced on social media platforms that the price of rice in the Visayas region of the Philippines has been reduced to PHP 20 per kilo, fulfilling a campaign promise he made during the 2022 presidential elections.
The initiative started on Wednesday, aiming to make rice more affordable in the Visayas.
Marcos emphasized the significance of delivering on his commitment to reduce rice prices nationwide.
The Philippine government has been collaborating with provincial governments in the Visayas for this pilot rollout.
This initiative is part of the government’s larger plan to address food security and ensure affordable staple foods for Filipinos.
The project intends to sustain the PHP 20 per kilo pricing of rice until the end of Marcos’ term in 2028.
The administration is utilizing various government interventions and partnerships to stabilize the supply and pricing of rice across the nation.
