Bacolod diocese grieves lives lost in Good Friday procession tragedy

MANILA, Philippines– The Diocese of Bacolod mourns the death of three individuals killed and 17 others killed in a road accident during a Good Friday procession in Barangay Alangilan, Bacolod City.

The accident occurred during the evening procession.

The victims were Dionelo Solano, a lay leader; Gilven Tanique, a barangay tanod; and Daynah Plohinog, a youth member, all affiliated with the Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish.

Fourteen injured persons received treatment at three private hospitals, while three people suffered minor injuries, among them two police officers.

Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon expressed solidarity with the victims’ families in a statement released Saturday afternoon.

The procession was part of the traditional Good Friday ceremonies observed by the parish.

The Diocese of Bacolod has offered prayers and support to affected families.

Meanwhile, local authorities are conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident.
