MANILA, Philippines– The Department of Education (DepEd) and the Teacher Education Council (TEC) announced on Saturday that a new policy for licensure examinations for teachers is set to enhance the quality of education and increase the supply of educators.
The policy follows the signing of a joint memorandum circular (JMC) by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), which aligns the licensure examination for professional teachers with the updated teacher education curriculum.
The new policy specifically includes separate examinations tailored to various fields of specialization, ensuring assessments are relevant to the graduates’ fields of study.
The implementation of this updated exam structure is scheduled to begin in September.
This initiative aims to better match teaching assignments to a teacher’s expertise, which is considered a critical factor in improving education quality.
