MANILA, Philippines– Actor Anthony Jennings will star in his inaugural international film, “Mother Maybe,” a horror-comedy directed by Filipino filmmaker Sonny Calvento, as announced by Variety.

The production of “Mother Maybe” is scheduled to commence in the final quarter of 2025.

Jennings, known for his successful projects on Netflix like “Sosyal Climbers” and “Incognito,” takes on the lead role in this film.

In “Mother Maybe,” Jennings portrays Marco, a young man who reunites with his estranged mother during an intense Asian game show.

The story follows the emotional reunion that turns dark when Marco learns his mother becomes a monstrous creature by night.

Director Calvento emphasized Jennings’ natural charm and emotional range, stating these qualities make him ideal for the role.

Calvento shared that “Mother Maybe” holds personal significance, as his own family diverged from the traditional Filipino family structure, with his mother leaving when he was two years old.

The film is a collaborative effort involving Southern Lantern Studios (Philippines), E&W Films (Singapore), and Volos Films Ltd. (Taiwan).

The production team teased the project on Instagram with the tagline: “Some bonds are stronger than fear,” suggesting the film’s mix of family dynamics and supernatural elements.
