AUSTIN, Texas– A blood test taken from Solomun Weldekeal Araya, the truck driver involved in a deadly crash on Interstate 35 in Austin, revealed no presence of drugs or alcohol, according to authorities.
Despite this finding, Araya, 32, faces multiple charges, including intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault in connection with the incident.
The crash, which occurred on March 31, resulted in the deaths of three adults, one child, and a baby.
Investigators responded to the scene, where they gathered evidence to assess the cause of the crash. The absence of drugs or alcohol in Araya’s system has complicated the investigation and legal proceedings.
Araya’s defense attorney is now working to reduce the bond amount set for his client, as the case progresses.
Although no substances were detected in Araya’s blood, the severity of the crash has led to lawsuits totaling over $150 million.
Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and any other potential contributing factors.
