EJ Obiena overcomes fog to take outdoor gold in Taiwan

MANILA, Philippines– EJ Obiena, a Filipino pole vaulter, won a gold medal at the Taiwan International Pole Vault Championship on March 30, 2025, at Sun Moon Lake in Nantou, Taiwan.

Obiena secured the victory despite foggy conditions that reduced visibility to about 10 meters.

He cleared a height of 5.50 meters on his third attempt.

This event marked Obiena’s third gold medal win of the year.

The championship included other Filipino competitors who achieved varying heights.

Obiena expressed gratitude for the victory and emphasized the importance of perseverance through challenging conditions.
