India’s Ministry of Defense announced on Friday a $7.3 billion agreement to procure 156 indigenous light combat Prachand helicopters for the Air Force and Army as part of the nation’s self-reliance initiative in defense production.

The helicopters will be produced by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the largest aerospace and defense company in India.

Officials stated that these helicopters will enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian armed forces.

India’s government emphasized the helicopters’ design, development, and production align with the Make in India initiative, aimed at promoting domestic manufacturing across sectors.

The helicopters feature advanced technologies suitable for high-altitude warfare and are equipped with air-to-ground and air-to-air missiles.
