WASHINGTON, D.C.– President Donald Trump has appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene in a legal dispute over the cancellation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) grants.

This appeal follows a federal district court ruling that instructed the Department of Education to reinstate these grants, which were initially awarded to recipients across eight states.

The controversy began when the Department of Education decided to cancel selected DEI grants, citing a shift in administrative policy regarding the allocation of such funds.

The affected states challenged the decision in court, arguing that the cancellations were unjustified and harmful to institutions and communities that rely on the grants.

The federal district court recently ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, ordering the Department of Education to restore access to the disputed grants.

The court found that the department’s cancellation did not adequately consider the purpose and potential impacts of the DEI funds.

As a result, institutions in the eight states will regain access to the financial resources needed to support their DEI initiatives.

Trump’s request for the Supreme Court’s intervention stems from his opposition to certain DEI policies and the administration’s handling of related grants.

In his appeal, Trump argues that the district court’s decision was flawed and that the Supreme Court should review the case to ensure a consistent approach to federal fund allocation and cancellation.

The states involved in the lawsuit have expressed support for the district court’s ruling, seeing it as a victory for initiatives aimed at enhancing diversity and inclusion. These states, home to numerous educational institutions that rely on DEI grants, argue that the funds are critical for promoting equity within schools and communities.

Supporters of the grant cancellations contend that reallocating federal funds is necessary to prioritize what they view as more effective educational and social programs.

They argue that the administration’s approach provides a more balanced distribution of resources aligned with broader federal priorities.
