MANILA, Philippines– The House of Representatives has formally requested the Senate to summon Vice President Sara Duterte to respond to impeachment charges.
The request follows a recent Senate hearing regarding the legalities surrounding the arrest and transfer of former President Rodrigo Duterte to The Hague.
On Tuesday, House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan led the push, emphasizing the need to resolve the allegations against Vice President Duterte with transparency and accountability.
The House prosecution team is urging the Senate to act as a court and expedite the process to address the impeachment charges against the Vice President.
Impeachment prosecutors are seeking a faster resolution and are pressing the Senate to convene earlier than initially planned.
Senate President Francis Escudero has confirmed receipt of the House’s request.
He stated that the Senate would consider the matter carefully and follow established legislative procedures.
While no immediate session for deliberation has been scheduled, the Senate is expected to assess the request according to legal protocols.
Vice President Duterte has not publicly responded to the summons, and her office has not issued a formal statement regarding the House’s request.
