KYLE, Texas — A fatal crash early Sunday morning on I-35 in Kyle, Texas, claimed the life of 50-year-old Austin resident Flavia Arzate Gomez.

Authorities say Gomez had stopped her vehicle on the highway shoulder to fix a tarp that had come loose when the incident occurred.

Gabriella Saurette, 21, of Austin, was driving the vehicle that struck Gomez’s stationary car.

Saurette told police that she had been drinking alcohol earlier in the evening, confirming her consumption of alcohol before the crash. She has since been charged with intoxicated manslaughter.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the collision, but Gomez was pronounced dead from her injuries.

Saurette, who was reportedly on Sixth Street in Austin prior to the crash, now faces serious legal consequences.
