MANILA, Philippines– Former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea is currently receiving medical care at a hospital in The Hague, the Philippine Embassy in the Netherlands confirmed.
The embassy’s statement, released on March 18, clarified that Medialdea became ill during a visit to the ICC Detention Center, where he was there to see former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The embassy did not provide specific details regarding Medialdea’s illness, only stating that medical professionals are attending to him. It assured that updates on his health will be shared as more information becomes available.
Medialdea, who served as Executive Secretary under Duterte’s administration, has long been considered one of the former president’s most trusted aides.
His visit to The Hague marks a continued connection with Duterte, even after both left office.
While the purpose of Medialdea’s visit and his interaction with Duterte were not disclosed in the embassy’s statement, the visit has drawn attention due to Duterte’s ongoing international prominence, especially in relation to his controversial war on drugs.
As Medialdea undergoes treatment, the embassy has pledged to keep the public updated on his condition.
Meanwhile, there has been no additional information released from The Hague or the ICC Detention Center regarding the details of the meeting between the two former officials.
