HOUSTON, Texas —Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare has called on the University of Texas System’s Board of Regents to implement a ban on drag shows, following a similar move by the Texas A&M University System.

O’Hare expressed concerns that drag performances undermine the dignity of women, suggesting that funds allocated to such events could be better spent on educational purposes.

He referenced an executive order by former President Donald Trump, which had implications for federal funding at educational institutions.

An LGBTQ student group from Texas A&M has filed a lawsuit against the ban, arguing that it violates First Amendment rights.

The University of Texas System has hosted drag shows on its campuses in the past, with many students and faculty showing support for such events.
