An explosion at a manhole on the Texas Tech University campus has caused power outages and prompted evacuations, according to the university’s police department.
The blast, which primarily affected the university and Health Sciences Center, led to the evacuation of the Engineering Key area due to a reported gas odor leak.
In response, the university sent out an alert to students advising them to follow evacuation instructions if located in the affected area.
The public has also been urged to avoid the campus.
Several parts of the campus are experiencing power outages as a result of the explosion. Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
