SEOUL, South Korea — Impeached former President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea was released from detention on Saturday after a Seoul court voided his arrest on procedural grounds.

Yoon had been detained following a dawn raid in January, with charges linked to accusations of insurrection related to an incident on December 3.

While his release temporarily lifts physical restrictions, the investigation into his actions continues, and he remains under scrutiny ahead of his upcoming trial.

The court’s ruling to cancel Yoon’s arrest was based on procedural issues, ensuring that legal actions adhere to proper judicial processes.

He also conveyed cautious optimism as he prepares for the next stages of the judicial process.

The investigation into Yoon’s martial law declaration remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to examine the motivations and implications behind the decree.
