WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump expressed confidence on Thursday that peace talks to resolve Russia’s military actions in Ukraine have made progress.
Trump stated he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin would honor any agreement to cease hostilities if a truce is reached.
“I think he’ll keep his word,” Trump said of Putin. “I’ve spoken to him, I’ve known him for a long time now, we had to go through the Russian hoax together.”
Speaking at the White House with British Prime Minister representatives, Trump revealed that the discussions between involved parties have advanced, offering a sense of optimism regarding the potential for a peaceful resolution.
Trump, while avoiding comment on the specifics of the ongoing negotiations, stressed his belief that Putin would uphold any commitments made during the peace talks.
Trump pointed to past experiences as the basis for his confidence in the Russian leader’s reliability when it comes to international agreements.
