MANILA, Philippines —Senator Risa Hontiveros has raised concerns about the ongoing presence of high-ranking officials from Philippine offshore gaming operators (Pogos) in the country, suggesting that some may still be residing in the Philippines despite previous reports indicating their departure.

Speaking at the “Kapihan sa Senado” forum on Wednesday, the senator linked the continued operations of illegal Pogo hubs to the potential presence of these officials, urging for a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Hontiveros emphasized that the persistence of these illegal gaming centers, despite a reported crackdown, signals the involvement of influential figures who may still be in the country.

She called for law enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts in identifying those responsible for sustaining illegal Pogo operations.

In response to Hontiveros’s comments, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), the body responsible for overseeing and regulating gaming activities, reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing local laws.

PAGCOR has conducted raids and taken legal action against illegal operators but acknowledged that the persistence of illegal Pogos remains a challenge.
