HOUSTON, Texas– Fort Bend County officials announced plans on Monday to build a vocational training center within the county’s juvenile detention facility.

The center will offer various job-training programs to equip young detainees with skills directly applicable to the workforce.

The county is seeking additional funding from the state to support the initiative.

The vocational training center will focus on providing hands-on training in multiple trades and professions, including those that meet industry standards.

County leaders believe the project will serve as a model for similar initiatives in Texas.

By integrating education into the juvenile justice system, officials hope to reduce recidivism and offer a more constructive path for youth involved in the justice system.

Fort Bend County officials have emphasized the importance of community collaboration for the project, seeking partnerships with local businesses and educational institutions to enhance the program.

Officials said the vocational training center is a step toward rehabilitation rather than mere detention, aiming to equip young individuals with skills that will aid them in securing employment after their release.
