Hays County confirms bird flu in wild bird, urges caution

AUSTIN, Texas– A dead bird in Hays County, Texas, has tested positive for avian influenza.

The county health department confirmed that a wild bird was found and laboratory tests identified the virus.

The strain and subtype of the virus were not disclosed. As a result, authorities have issued warnings and recommended preventive actions.

Avian influenza mainly affects birds but can spread to humans and other animals.
